It was time to hit the Amritsar to explore the holy city of Punjab that we know one of the oldest town in India and home to the Har Mandir Sahib (Golden Temple), the most sacred Gurdwara of Sikhism.
Amritsar, Pool of Nectar, originates its name from Amrit Sarovar, the holy tank that surrounds the fabulous Golden Temple. Amritsar, Punjab.
I had started my trip from Delhi to Amritsar in the evening, May 29th. I took the Punjab Roadways Bus (booked online) from the Kashmiri Gate Bus Terminal which departed at 08:50 p.m. from ISBT Counter No. 24/25/26 (Boarding Point).
- You can either choose Train or Flight to travel this city.
I reached at the Amritsar Bus Terminal by 5:15 hours in the morning. It was my first time when I traveled through Volvo Bus, It was so comfortable and luxurious, and of course, it was value for money!
Now your Journey starts from here – you have to take rickshaw or auto to Golden Temple. That would probably cost you only INR 20.
I took the same and reached to Golden temple in the early morning as the weather was too hot for this season. I reached to Golden temple premises and took off my shoes to Shoe counter.
At the temple entrance, there is foot bath which helps you to clean your feet.
After that, I completed my Parikrama around the Sarovar and then headed towards Golden Temple. After an hour in the queue, I managed to get inside the shrine.I wanted to visit the ‘Langar’ where they serve free food but, I was quite tired, and I had other plans for the day.
NOTE: On arrival at the Golden Temple, both men and women are required to wear a scarf over their head.
Outside the Temple, there are many shops selling souvenirs. Try Punjabi jutis, which are the popularity of the region, Hand-woven carpets, blankets, woolen garments and of course Patiala is attractive in Amritsar.
I spent my few hours in heritage site where I had to take my HOHO Bus that departs at 10:00 am.
HOHO (Hop On Hop Off) is a city tour bus to visit 16 Historical places in the Holy Amritsar city in one day. I booked city tour online in advance before my trip. This Bus covers almost all the tourist attraction like Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum. Durgiana Mandir, Sadda Pind, Wagha Border and Khalsa College. It also saves your time.
After completing the all tourist attraction, HOHO bus dropped me at Maharaja Ranjit Sigh Chowk in the evening.
The beautification of Town Hall to Golden Temple is just Amazing- No Words! This heritage walk will give you the most unusual experience.
Here are few more shots from the culture market that I explored by a walk through this.
So most important thing I should tell you that what I like most about the Amritsar’s people is the gesture, helping behavior, how they interact wth travelers – just unmeasurable.
I hitchhiked up to Bus Stand, and I boarded the bus at 10:20 pm from Amritsar to Delhi.
It was an amazing solo trip and unforgettable one.
